Saturday March 2nd is contest day for the Midlands Area Regional Brass Band Championships. We are competing in the 1st section along with 15 other bands from the Midlands at the Corby Business Academy.
The test piece this year is High Peak by Eric Ball, a classic, written in 1969 for the National Finals. It is a descriptive piece of the assent of a high mountain but Eric Ball is quoted as having described High Peak as more of a spiritual journey, than a physical one.
The band have really enjoyed working on this piece and trying to make the best sounds possible from its emblematic euphonium declamation at the start, through to the soprano top note at the end.
We have a full band including a full trombone section this year (unlike last year!). We are hoping for the best result possible, but are mostly aiming to enjoy the day and perform the best we can.
