Concert: St Paul’s

Concert: St Paul’s

The Carlton Band Organisation has a long history - nearly 120 years now - and we are proud of our heritage. The first band emerged in 1902 from the Netherfield Railway, and while the train link is no longer with us we still play in the same Nottingham district. The main band - Carlton Brass - moved into our new band room late last year on Meadow Road, Netherfield. The train line is nearby and our link to Netherfield is secured for many more years. Our organisation also has an amazing second band called Burton Joyce Community Brass (BJCB) who share rehearsal space with the main band while also rehearsing once a week in Burton Joyce. They have been encouraging local budding musicians to their cause for many years and have a diverse mix of old and young. There is a growing set of learners too. Yesterday afternoon saw our whole wonderful organisation get together for a free concert at St Paul's Church...

Players needed – trombone and baritone

Players needed – trombone and baritone

We are currently looking at filling a couple of spaces at Carlton Brass. We need both a second trombone and solo baritone player to provide the missing pieces to our wonderful band sound. Interested? Please give our Secretary Anne a call (07946 322081) or get hold of us through our contacts page. The summer months also leaves us with a few spare seats during rehearsals while folks are away sunning themselves in warmer climes (such as Skegness etc). If anyone of any instrument finds themselves free on a Monday or Thursday evening please do come along for a blow at our current rehearsal space at Carlton Baptist Church. Do give Anne a ring beforehand just in case our plans have changed, but we would love to see some new faces. We can always find space for enthusiastic, talented local players. We are particularly welcoming to Nottingham students. We've had a number of lovely players from both local universities over the years, so...

Supporting the brass band movement

Supporting the brass band movement

It's with great pleasure we can now announce a partnership with local transport operator Nottingham City Transport (NCT). NCT have taken a keen interest in helping to keep the brass band tradition alive and will be supporting our training band in the coming year. Their press release follows: Nottingham City Transport has announced its support for the Carlton Brass Training Band in a new partnership that will see Nottingham’s principal bus operator help to secure the local brass instrument talent of the future. For the year ahead at least, the city’s award-winning bus company has sponsored what will now be known as ‘Carlton Brass Training Band in association with NCT’. The band relies on bookings for performances to keep them going financially, and their new partnership will now be displayed on concert programmes and on promotional banners at these events from now on. This joint venture came about thanks to one of NCT’s drivers –  who plays the cornet in the band. “Last year...

Move to Burton Joyce

Move to Burton Joyce

On the 19th March members of both bands worked to move out of our soon to be demolished bandroom in Carlton, to our new home - the old school house in Burton Joyce. The preceding week saw some emotional last rehearsals with several ex-members coming down to say goodbye to the building, which has been the home of the band for over 60 years. Our new home is lovely. It's clean, warm, nice and large for all our instruments and (currently) spider free. Resident comedian Phil promised to bring the gigantic spider that lived in the cornet (behind the timps) along to the new building, but so far it has not shown its many-eyed face. If you would like to find us, this is our address: Burton Joyce Old School, Chestnut Grove, Burton Joyce, Nottm NG14 5DP Here is our new building: ...

Press Release – Carlton Band Organisation

Press Release – Carlton Band Organisation

PRESS RELEASE FROM CARLTON BAND ORGANISATION - 12 February 2016 WHAT HELP DO WE NEED? We need to find premises with enough space for us to rehearse and store our instruments and music. WHY DO WE NEED IT? The Carlton Band organisation (Registered Charity No 504547) has been resident in our bandroom at Station Road, Carlton for over 60 years. We now need to vacate the premises, ideally by the end of March 2016 in order to support Netherfield's urban regeneration and social housing development. The band therefore urgently needs premises for rehearsals and children's tuition groups. WHO ARE WE?  The Carlton Band organisation comprises two bands: Carlton Brass is proud to be Nottingham's premier brass band, consisting of ~25 musicians performing regularly across the region. We have had a successful year taking first prize in the North East Midlands Brass Band Association competition in February 2015 and repeating this a month later at the Midlands Area Championships. In September we were delighted to be placed fourth...
