The talented members of Carlton Brass are used to winning prizes, and over the years we have accumulated a nice collection of individual silverware to go with our band contest trophies.

Our horn player Lynda Allison has managed to get herself an unusual medal at the recent ‘Earth Wind & Fire’ event at Mount Cook Adventure Centre – a participation medal for fire walking! Lynda was the only band member brave enough to put the soles of her feet to the test and looks (rightly) pleased with herself.

Happy Lynda

Once Lynda had put the rest of us to shame we performed a fantastic set of music for an enthusiastic audience. We played an arrangement of September by Earth Wind & Fire just for this occasion, along with some Star Wars, Frolic for Trombones and an assortment of popular music that was greatly enjoyed by all. We had some lovely comments by the organisers of the event and hope to be playing again here soon.

The band have a few spaces to fill. We would love to recruit a second trombone, a back row cornet, plus a bass player (Eb or Bb to fill a space for next year’s area). We promise you’ll not be made to walk over hot coals, but will be welcomed into a friendly band with ambitious plans for the future.

The word on the grapevine is that Lynda is planning her next exciting adventure, and is looking at ways of playing her tenor horn while sky-diving, or maybe swimming with sharks. Stay tuned!
