We enjoyed an incredible weekend of music making in the open air this weekend with three super performances over one weekend. The weather held out for us too and we got some great feedback for diverse and interesting programmes.

Summer Wedding
The first gig of the weekend was a wedding on Saturday 26th July in Long Clawson. We played at the beginning of their reception as guests were arriving. ‘It Must Be Love’ (Labbe Shifre / Madness) greeted them followed by some Ed Sheeran, Coldplay, Beyond the Sea and Hey Jude!
Ali (the bride) is a cornet player and her grandfather played euphonium. We hope our playing has inspired her to join our training band, Burton Joyce Community Brass.

Lambley ‘Party in the Park‘

On Saturday evening we performed in Lambley at the village ‘Party in the Park’ for the second year in a row and for the third time at the invitation of the Lambley Parish Council. Last year’s concert was fantastic as people had their picnics and drinks in the late evening sun on a warm evening and this year was equally amazing.

The band played a mixed programme with some film music, pops and proms classics. Steve Parker (Soprano Cornet) performed beautifully for his solo, La Califa by Enrico Morricone and the trombone section (Geoff Pearson, Rob and Lena Rueff) did a great job with ‘I Will Follow Him’ from the musical Sister Act.

Nottingham Arboretum Bandstand
The final performance of the weekend was a performance in the bandstand at Nottingham Arboretum. Again the weather held out and a good crowd enjoyed the music in the sunshine with a great mixed programme.
We ended with Sweet Caroline which was appropriate as England’s Women kicked off just after we finished, and of course won the Euros on penalties against Spain. ⚽🏆🏆
