Tony Wilson Returns

Tony Wilson Returns

Carlton Brass are very happy to announce that Tony Wilson has agreed to be the band's Musical Director. Tony has been immensely helpful during recent months, picking up the baton and enabling rehearsals during the current difficult times. He has enjoyed conducting us and we are delighted that he has agreed to take us through to the 2022 Regional Content next March, with a view to staying on beyond that. Tony has previously conducted the band during one of our most successful periods, bringing the band from the fourth section back in 1999 all the way through to the first section. No other conductor has earned more first places for Carlton Brass, and we will be aiming for further podium finishes once the contest season restarts. He brings a wealth of musical experience and an abundance of enthusiasm that will help motivate the band, whilst having lots of fun along the way. Tony acknowledges that a lot of hard work lies ahead,...

New Musical Director: Gary Glover

New Musical Director: Gary Glover

Carlton Brass are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Musical Director Gary Glover. Gary is an old friend of Carlton having played Euphonium and conducted the band on occasions in the past. He is the former Director of Music of the Nottinghamshire Police Band and now works in and around the Nottinghamshire area as a musician and teacher. Gary already has a very busy diary teaching Music in two primary schools, several private piano and brass students, resident pianist at ‘Piano’ restaurant and principal euphonium in the Royal Signals (Northern) Band. His varied musical experience and considered approach to his audition material greatly impressed the band and we are very much looking forward to having him conduct us at our rehearsal tomorrow night. Band spokesperson Dave Rutt said, "Gary has been a friend of the band for a number of years. He's a super Euphonium player and has spent time both within the band as a player and as a guest...

Gary Wyatt resigns

Gary Wyatt resigns

Some sad news from the Carlton Bandroom. Our Musical Director Gary Wyatt has resigned from the band, having conducted us since July 2016. We have greatly enjoyed his tenure in front of the band, highlighted by our successful trip to the French Open in June 2018 and trophy-winning performances at NEMBBA and the Denby Pottery Entertainment Contest. The band would like to express their thanks for his time with us and wish him every success with whatever comes next - especially his trip to the Royal Albert Hall with Desford Band. Carlton Brass are now inviting applications for Gary's replacement. Interested parties should please contact our new Chairman Andy McCormack (07882305141) or email info@carltonbrass.co.uk. We rehearse in our own bandroom on Monday & Thursday evenings in Netherfield, Nottingham between 8 and 10PM. ...

Hawley takes up the stick

Carlton Brass are pleased to announce the appointment of Geoff Hawley to the post of Musical Director. Geoff is a long-time friend of the band and brings a wealth of experience to the role. Geoff previously conducted the band at Butlins in January where we attained a highly credible sixth place in strong field. Geoff takes over from Stan Lippeatt. The band would like to thank Stan for the hard work and motivation during his time with us. His efforts earned us a fine fifth placing at the Midlands Regional Championships in March and we are very thankful for his guidance during his tenure. The band would also like to thank Christine Lippeatt, Amy Mondschein and Mark Wardle for their help over the last six months or so. Their talent and cheery personalities have given the band a lift and we have really enjoyed having them within our ranks. We wish you all the best for the future. 2011 has seen the band reach...

Wally Takes The Strain

It is with great pleasure that we announce that Walter Ritchie BEM has taken over the Baton (for the time being) from Tony Wilson. Tony's workload and family commitments has meant that he has had to take a backroom position for the next few months. It also gives him more time to devote to the Lakeside Entertainment Contest in September. Walter comes to us with a wealth of experience, his talents as a band trainer and musician are second to none. His greatest achievement was in bringing his former band Foss Dyke from the 4th section to the Championship section. Wally has been taking the band now for the last few rehearsals and both band and conductor are working well together. We welcome you, Wally, into our fold....
