Carlton Brass come second at Leicester

Walter had a really fine day on his first contest with the band at Leicester yesterday. We were not on top form but the quality was there as was proved when Steve Parker on sop collected the soloist prize for his playing in Eric Ball’s “Tournament for Brass”.

Lakeside Entertainments Contest 10th September 2006

All is now set for a fine day of brass music at Lakeside in Nottingham. It is regretted that the planed Championship/first section and the top prize of £1000 has had to be postponed till next year, this is due to the fact of other contests on the same weekend and bands still on holiday.

Battle of the Bands Contest

Yet again Tony managed to gain another two prizes, this time at The Ireland Band’s Entertainment contest. Playing band number three we managed to gain second prize and the best soloist prize. Whit Friday Marches 2006

What a fantastic day we had on this years Whit Friday marches, we may not have won any prizes but we did manage to get to 9 playing venues. We did have a slight panic attack a couple of days before the event when Janet Bailey was taken into hospital so we were left with only one horn and no bass drum!

All was not lost as Martin Donzé stepped in at short notice to play bass drum, and what a fantastic job he did (Boom Boom!). John Wilson also decided to forsake his Eb Bass and play horn (wimp!) only kiddin John. Continue reading “Whit Friday Marches 2006”

Lakeside Invitation Contest 2006

Carlton Brass, in association with Lakeside, announce that after the success of last years Lakeside invitation entertainment contest this years contest will take place on Sunday September 10th.

This years contest will see several changes. The first being that there will now be a championship/1st section. The second being that the prize money has been made more substantial! There will be 5 bands in the top section and 5 bands in the lower sections, with prizes given accordingly. There will be no pre draw and ALL bands will be in the main draw and play side by side. The bands this year will not be playing in the centre of the lake, but at the side of the lake.

All Hands to the Pump

Lakeside Brass Extravaganza

On the 11th of September Carlton Brass Nottingham in conjunction with Lakeside Tower (The Old Bestwood Pumping Station) is holding an Open Invitation Entertainments Contest. Each band will play 20 – 25 minutes of music from the central island in the magnificent surroundings of Lakeside .

The adjudicator for the day is Mr David Read and the MC is the larger than Life Lynden Cooper from Newstead Welfare.
