What a fantastic day we had on this years Whit Friday marches, we may not have won any prizes but we did manage to get to 9 playing venues. We did have a slight panic attack a couple of days before the event when Janet Bailey was taken into hospital so we were left with only one horn and no bass drum!
All was not lost as Martin Donzé stepped in at short notice to play bass drum, and what a fantastic job he did (Boom Boom!). John Wilson also decided to forsake his Eb Bass and play horn (wimp!) only kiddin John.
The player of the day must go to John Yarker on Euphonium. John was all on his own and played his socks off, well done John. Mention must also be made to the following players who gave up there time to play with us – John Pacey from Harborough Band, Sue Mercer from The Ransome Band and to Paul Murphy a free lance trombonist. We thank you all for playing and we hope that you enjoyed the day as much as we did.
Of course the food prize was yet again won by Alan Carlin for his efforts to demolish a hot pot and red cabbage just before the march on at Denton!
So, no prizes but a grand day out.
