Salute to Euph

Salute to Euph

Carlton Brass are currently looking to fill some big boots: those of Barrie Tupper, our Solo Euphonium for the last ten or so years. Barrie has moved across to our friends at Foss Dyke Band in Lincolnshire, and so we have a spare seat. Barrie may not be the tallest Euphonium player but he has a big sound and the ability to charm the birds down from the trees (according to our late MD Walter Ritchie). We don't have many trees near our bandroom but you will find a warm welcome and functioning central heating. Our Solo Euphonium seat could be yours. We are a friendly band with a sensible calendar of concerts and contests, frequent trips to the pub and the knowledge that we haven't had Blaydon Races out of the cupboard in many a year. We are also looking for a percussionist and front row cornet player. Barrie used to bring along the husband and wife team of Louise Jackson and Dave...

New Direction

New Direction

Carlton Brass are looking for a conductor: we are in need of a musical director able to take us into next year's Regional First Section contest and beyond. Interested? We are ideally looking for someone relatively local to Nottingham with experience and enthusiasm to guide our band towards a successful and enjoyable 2020. We have only a few gaps in our ranks, our own band room and a desire to continue enjoying our musical adventures with a new conductor. We were sad to lose Gary Glover to work pressures recently after a short but enjoyable stay with us. We wish him all the best with his own musical business and hope to see him in front of a stand again when time permits. We have been lucky in recent weeks to have been looked after by some good friends of the band. Geoff Hawley has been so helpful with both rehearsals and a recent concert, while Kieren Dean, Ewan Robson and Sharon Stansfield...

We are a friendly bunch and under new direction: Gary Glover has been doing a fantastic job in his first few rehearsals. New Musical Director: Gary Glover

New Musical Director: Gary Glover

Carlton Brass are delighted to announce the appointment of our new Musical Director Gary Glover. Gary is an old friend of Carlton having played Euphonium and conducted the band on occasions in the past. He is the former Director of Music of the Nottinghamshire Police Band and now works in and around the Nottinghamshire area as a musician and teacher. Gary already has a very busy diary teaching Music in two primary schools, several private piano and brass students, resident pianist at ‘Piano’ restaurant and principal euphonium in the Royal Signals (Northern) Band. His varied musical experience and considered approach to his audition material greatly impressed the band and we are very much looking forward to having him conduct us at our rehearsal tomorrow night. Band spokesperson Dave Rutt said, "Gary has been a friend of the band for a number of years. He's a super Euphonium player and has spent time both within the band as a player and as a guest...

Gary Wyatt resigns

Gary Wyatt resigns

Some sad news from the Carlton Bandroom. Our Musical Director Gary Wyatt has resigned from the band, having conducted us since July 2016. We have greatly enjoyed his tenure in front of the band, highlighted by our successful trip to the French Open in June 2018 and trophy-winning performances at NEMBBA and the Denby Pottery Entertainment Contest. The band would like to express their thanks for his time with us and wish him every success with whatever comes next - especially his trip to the Royal Albert Hall with Desford Band. Carlton Brass are now inviting applications for Gary's replacement. Interested parties should please contact our new Chairman Andy McCormack (07882305141) or email info@carltonbrass.co.uk. We rehearse in our own bandroom on Monday & Thursday evenings in Netherfield, Nottingham between 8 and 10PM. ...

How’s your Baritone?

How’s your Baritone?

Carlton Brass have had a recent retirement in our baritone bench (more on that very soon) and are now looking for a top quality solo baritone player to join us. We currently enjoy the presence of some  wonderful euphonium and baritone players - do you have what it takes to bolster our impressive middle? We are also still in need of a permanent second trombone and a couple of cornets (front and/or back). Our principal cornet would love a strong bumper-upper to join him on the front row - those top Cs aren't going to play themselves. Our excellent MD Gary Wyatt would love to see you in these seats at our own bandroom in Netherfield. There's air-conditioning and everything. What's stopping you calling our secretary Anne (07946 322081) in confidence and coming down for a blow (Mondays and Thursdays)? Join us! ...

Players needed – trombone and baritone

Players needed – trombone and baritone

We are currently looking at filling a couple of spaces at Carlton Brass. We need both a second trombone and solo baritone player to provide the missing pieces to our wonderful band sound. Interested? Please give our Secretary Anne a call (07946 322081) or get hold of us through our contacts page. The summer months also leaves us with a few spare seats during rehearsals while folks are away sunning themselves in warmer climes (such as Skegness etc). If anyone of any instrument finds themselves free on a Monday or Thursday evening please do come along for a blow at our current rehearsal space at Carlton Baptist Church. Do give Anne a ring beforehand just in case our plans have changed, but we would love to see some new faces. We can always find space for enthusiastic, talented local players. We are particularly welcoming to Nottingham students. We've had a number of lovely players from both local universities over the years, so...

Cornet and percussion positions

Carlton Brass - second section Midlands champions - have vacancies for a cornet player and a percussionist. We need, ideally, a strong cornet player to sit on second man down and a tuned percussionist with strong timpani skills. Both positions would give applicants the chance to play with us at the National Championships of Great Britain in Cheltenham in September. These are great opportunities for aspiring players to join an improving, successful band. Under the baton of Paul 'Wink' Watson we have won two contests this year and aim to make it three in Cheltenham. Applicants can email info@carltonbrass.co.uk or fill in the contact form below ...
