It is with immense sadness that Carlton Brass announce the death of Alan Ritchie. Alan passed away in a tragic boating accident on Wednesday 30th July leaving us all in a state of shock.

Our thoughts are with his parents, Walter and Marie, and his family and friends at this most difficult of times.

Alan was a dedicated, talented bandsman, having played with many bands in the Midlands over the years. He has only been with Carlton Brass for a short time but has a long association with the organisation, having also played with Nottingham City Transport. He's also been a much-loved member of both the Foss Dyke Band and Thoresby and is well known throughout the country as a great guy and exceptional musician. He will be sadly missed by us all.

He’s also been a much-loved member of both the Foss Dyke Band and Thoresby and is well known throughout the country as a great guy and exceptional musician. He will be sadly missed by us all.

The funeral will be on Friday 15th August at 1:15pm at St Michael’s Church, High Street, Waddington. There will be a private family cremation at 2:30. Everyone else should congregate at The Wheatsheaf. Flowers from family only please.

Carlton Brass are looking some quality brass musicians to bolster the band in its ambitions to improve towards contests later in the year.

We currently have positions open for cornets, front row and back, Bb bass and second trombone. We especially need a quality euphonium play for our soloist position.

In addition to the vacancies for brass instrument players we’re always in need of more percussionists, both tuned and kit.

We are a friendly band doing well in the Midland Area First Section and we would welcome players for any position to come down for a blow. We’re are an adaptable lot and can always juggle seats if we need to.

If you would like to get in touch then please see the contact page for details.

We bid John Yarker a fond farewell and hope that he enjoys his music in pastures new. Taking over on the euphonium chair we welcome Dave Tooth. Our long standing percussionist Henry Burnet has also decided to stand down and branch out into the key board scene, Henry will be deeply missed but we are sure that we can call upon him in the future. Taking over from Henry is Robbie Tooth, the son of Dave. Also John Moore joins the front row cornet section. John has just moved to Nottingham from Australia where he was a member of Brisbane Excelsior Band.

From Walter and all the Band we say our thanks and welcome.

It is with great pleasure that we announce that Walter Ritchie BEM has taken over the Baton (for the time being) from Tony Wilson. Tony’s workload and family commitments has meant that he has had to take a backroom position for the next few months. It also gives him more time to devote to the Lakeside Entertainment Contest in September.

Walter comes to us with a wealth of experience, his talents as a band trainer and musician are second to none. His greatest achievement was in bringing his former band Foss Dyke from the 4th section to the Championship section. Wally has been taking the band now for the last few rehearsals and both band and conductor are working well together.

We welcome you, Wally, into our fold.
